What are concrete slabs?

Concrete slabs are a common building element that is used as a structural component. It is a thick, flat, horizontal concrete surface usually used as the floor or roof. More so concrete slabs are employed for the construction of the ground floor of some residential buildings to support the foundation or directly on the soil.

Our Concrete Slab Installation Process

Concrete installation isn't for those with weak hearts. Port St. Lucie Concrete Contractors follows the strict process of installing concrete slabs.

Safety is our top priority when we work on concrete projects. We ensure that we've got all necessary safety equipment prior to we start any project. We put on gloves, long sleeves, rubber boots and gloves to protect our eyes. All of these safeguard us from concrete splatters, that could affect our overall health and well-being.

We strictly follow the steps below as an integral part of our procedure:

Step 1: Onsite preparation

Whatever the size or large the project no matter how big or small, we will adhere to the same procedure. Every project we undertake starts with the preparation of the area. We clean up all evidence of contamination to allow us to start fresh. We make sure that all the necessary materials are readily available in preparation. We plan the delivery of these items prior to actual work. This allows us to complete the work on time.

Step 2: Make Concrete Forms using Steel, and Reinforce Concrete Slabs with Steel

Once the site has been cleared and prepared, we'll begin the process of installing concrete forms constructed of wire mesh. Concrete forms are solid barriers which hold the concrete mixture in the right place. They also force concrete that is wet to conform to a certain shape or design. Rebar is used for strengthening concrete for larger structures. This ensures stronger concrete surfaces.

Step 3: Mixing Concrete Mix

To make it easier, we use the concrete truck. It is also useful in ensuring concrete materials are properly mixed. Sometimes, we do manual mixing. In the majority of projects the use of a concrete mixer is essential.

Step 4: Pouring Concrete

Once the concrete is mixed, we then pour a concrete slab in the forms. Be careful when pouring the concrete mix to prevent creating air pockets. Air pockets are created because there isn't enough mortar available to fill in the spaces around the aggregate. When making concrete, we make sure that we spread the mix over the form. We never leave a gap.
